== Some thoughts on starting new ==

We hope that prior articles can be rescued from the prior, corrupted, database and imported to this installation.

For now the documentation starts afresh. We suggest:

# Create new pages from this home page by creating a link to it [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Starting_a_new_page as shown in the MediaWiki documentation] under the Articles heading below.
#* Or by searching for a topic and starting a page on that topic from the results page if no existing article is found.
#* ('''As more articles populate this wiki, this will be preferred and the home page may take a different form.''')
# Please name things concisely and accurately and consider making new pages if your area of contribution wanders.
# Use the "Discussion" tab to add notes with questions, suggestions, and leads that are not complete thoughts for a given page.
# Familiarize yourself with the [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Contents Medawiki documentation] and [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Formatting format contributions thoughtfully]. Eventually use of categories or topics will be an essential responsibility of contributors as well.
# Discussion of editing conventions specific to this wiki or of tools that might extend this wiki setup should probably happen under the "[http://accupedia.washingtonstakeout.com/index.php?title=Talk:Main_Page Discussion]" tab for this page (the main page) for now.
But, mainly, it's critical to our own legitimate national interests. And we are going to have to go through, for years to come, a tough battle between these terrorists who will attack our homeland, attack our bases around the world, attack our soldiers.And we have got to continue to stay firm.

==On the Iraq War==
[[Iraq Had WMDs]]

"Why is Saddam Hussein attempting to develop nuclear weapons when most nations don’t even try? ... According to intelligence, Iraq has chemical and biological weapons ... Iraq is developing unmanned aerial vehicles capable of delivering chemical and biological warfare agents ...”

"When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security and that of our allies in the Persian Gulf region. I will vote yes because I believe it is the best way to hold Saddam Hussein accountable."(10/9/2002, Congressional Record, V. 148, Pt. 14, October 2, 2002 to October 9, 2002, P. 19701) [http://books.google.com/books?id=Ja96v7i_4hAC&pg=PA19701&lpg=PA19701&dq=Why+is+Saddam+Hussein+attempting+to+develop+nuclear+weapons+when+most+nations+don%E2%80%99t+even+try?&source=bl&ots=vpjY0XVweC&sig=M2fZMiKIFI9FXijLm8Ix6U34ih8&hl=en&sa=X&ei=U4XjT9exK9Lr0QHP88H0Aw&ved=0CGIQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=Why%20is%20Saddam%20Hussein%20attempting%20to%20develop%20nuclear%20weapons%20when%20most%20nations%20don%E2%80%99t%20even%20try%3F&f=false]

"The threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but as I said, it is not new. It has been with us since the end of that war, and particularly in the last 4 years we know after Operation Desert Fox failed to force him to reaccept them, that he has continued to build those weapons. ...According to intelligence, Iraq has chemical and biological weapons as well as missiles with ranges in excess of the 150 kilometer restriction imposed by the United Nations in the ceasefire resolution."(10/9/2002, Iraq Speech in Congress Iraq War Vote) [http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1240102/posts]

"I didn’t vote for the Iraq war. I voted to give the president authority that he misused and abused. And from the moment he used it, I opposed that.’" (2011) [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUgKry8Q8v8]]

However, in 2003, Kerry was quoted as saying "I fear that in the run-up to the 2004 election the administration is considering what is tantamount to a cut-and-run strategy." [[http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/09/kerry.iraq/]]

In 2013, Kerry claimed that he and then Senator Chuch Hagel "opposed the President's decision to go into Iraq," even though both voted to give Bush authorization to use force in the country. "You know, "Senator Chuck Hagel, when he was senator, Senator Chuck Hagel, now secretary of defense, and when I was a senator, we opposed the president’s decision to go into Iraq, but we know full well how that evidence was used to persuade all of us that authority ought to be given." [[http://www.factcheck.org/2013/09/kerry-spins-his-record-on-iraq/]]

While Kerry expressed qualms in the early days of the war about the lack of diplomatic effort put forth by the Bush Administration, he believed the claim that Iraq had WMD's and thought Saddam Hussein should be overthrown. A CNN article from 2004 states: "Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said Monday he would not have changed his vote to authorize the war against Iraq, but said he would have handled things "very differently" from President Bush." [[http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/09/kerry.iraq/]]

He also stated in a 2003 interview "I would have preferred if we had given diplomacy a greater opportunity, but I think it was the right decision to disarm Saddam Hussein, and when the president made the decision, I supported him, and I support the fact that we did disarm him." [[http://www.factcheck.org/2013/09/kerry-spins-his-record-on-iraq/]]

"When he was a senator, Chuck Hagel, and when I was a senator, we opposed the president's decision to go into Iraq but we know full well how that evidence was used to persuade all of us that authority ought to be given." [https://youtu.be/TFyrbmnGOlM]
[[Iraq Had WMDs]]

Voted for the 2002 authorization for the Iraq war. In her 2002 floor speech, she stated that “intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al-Qaeda members” (Oct. 10, 2002) [http://web.archive.org/web/20081218155448/http://clinton.senate.gov/speeches/iraq_101002.html] [http://www.ontheissues.org/2012/Joe_Biden_War_+_Peace.htm#Iraq_War]
"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. "This is a very difficult vote, this is probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make. Any vote that might lead to war should be hard, but I cast it with conviction." Floor of the Senate 2002. [[http://www.freedomagenda.com/iraq/wmd_quotes.html]]

"No, I don't regret giving the president authority because at the time it was in the context of weapons of mass destruction, grave threats to the United States, and clearly, Saddam Hussein had been a real problem for the international community for more than a decade.... The consensus was the same, from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration. It was the same intelligence belief that our allies and friends around the world shared. == On Iran ==
In comments from 2007, Clinton promised to obliterate Iran if it attacked Israel.
"If Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel what would our response be? I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran. That's what we will do. There is no safe haven. Whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program [the one the UN and all 16 US intelligence agencies say doesn't exist and is not planned] in the next 10 years during which they may foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them." [[http://www.whateverittakeshillary.org/2014/06/aggression-unprovoked-attack-invasion.html]]

"I so hope we are able to get a deal next week that puts the lid on Iran’s nuclear weapons program,” she said. “Even if we do get such a deal, we will still have major problems from Iran. They are the world’s chief sponsor of terrorism. They use proxies like Hezbollah to sow discord and create insurgencies to destabilize governments. They are taking more and more control of a number of nations in the region, and they pose an existential threat to Israel." [[http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/hillary-clinton-i-take-a-backseat-to-no-one-on-liberal-record-119723.html]]

Clinton's statements above are a lie concering the nature of the Iranian Nuclear program:

'''Fact''': US and Israeli intelligence both say Iran’s nuclear program has no military component. No evidence whatever suggests Tehran wants one. Plenty indicates otherwise.[[http://www.globalresearch.ca/hillary-clinton-if-im-president-we-will-attack-iran/5460484]]

== On Education ==
“When I think about the really unfortunate argument that’s been going on around Common Core, it’s very painful, because the Common Core started off as a bi-partisan effort — it was actually nonpartisan. It wasn’t politicized, it was to try to come up with a core of learning that we might expect students to achieve across our country, no matter what kind of school district they were in, no matter how poor their family was, that there wouldn’t be two tiers of education,” Clinton said. [[http://thinkprogress.org/education/2015/04/23/3650304/can-hillary-clinton-walk-line-common-core/]]

Clinton then contrasts that view with the following quote saying teachers shouldn't be blamed as the problem, which many teachers feel they are under Common Core. "It is just dead wrong to make teachers the scapegoats for all of society’s problems. Where I come from, teachers are the solution. And I strongly believe that unions are part of the solution, too.” [[http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2015/07/will-hillary-clinton-continue-education-reform.html]]

== On Drones ==
Clinton has defended the Obama administration ratcheting up the use of drone strikes, calling such tactics an effective method of combating Al-Qaeda. "We will always maintain our right to use force against groups such as al Qaeda that have attacked us and still threaten us with imminent attack... In doing so, we will comply with the applicable law, including the laws of war, and go to extraordinary lengths to ensure precision and avoid the loss of innocent life. She added that “dozens of senior terrorists had been taken off the battlefield by drones.” [[http://thinkprogress.org/election/2015/04/10/3644602/hillary-clinton-foreign-policy/]]

However, some experts, including at the United Nations disagree with Clinton's assertion that the United States complies with "applicable law" calling drone strikes may be a violation of international law. [[http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/18/drone-strikes-us-violate-law-un]]

== History of flip-flopping ==

'''Providing Driver's Licenses to Undocumented Immigrants:'''
During her 2008 Presidential campaign, Clinton came out against providing undocumented immigrants with driver's liceneses. "As president, I will not support driver’s licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration, including border security and fixing our broken system.”[[http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/clinton-now-against-licenses-for-illegal-immigrants/?_r=1]]

However, in the 2016 Presidential campaign, Clinton has flipped her views on the issue. Her campaign released a statement saying "Hillary supports state policies to provide drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants. This is consistent with her support for the president's executive action." [[http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/04/16/this-time-hillary-clinton-supports-giving-drivers-licenses-to-undocumented-immigrants/]]

'''Same-Sex Marriage:'''
Clinton has also changed her position on Same-Sex Marriage. As recently as 2014, she stated the issue should be left to the individual states themselves to decide. "Marriage had always been a matter left to the states. And in many of the conversations that I and my colleagues and supporters had, I fully endorse the efforts by activists who work state-by-state." [[http://www.businessinsider.com/hillary-clinton-gay-marriage-and-immigration-flip-flops-2015-4]]

However, as the Supreme Court considered whether some state's bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional, Clinton voiced support for the court deciding the issue rather than states. A Clinton aide said "Hillary Clinton supports marriage equality and hopes the Supreme Court will come down on the side of same-sex couples being guaranteed that constitutional right." [[http://www.businessinsider.com/hillary-clinton-gay-marriage-and-immigration-flip-flops-2015-4]]

Clinton was initially opposed to same-sex marriage, stating in 2000 that "Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman." [[http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/03/18/how-hillary-clinton-evolved-on-gay-marriage/]]

'''Crime:'''
Clinton has switched her views on the issue of crime and incarceration as well. During Bill Clinton's presidency she supported his tough on crime policies and a 1994 law "that among other things, has increased untold numbers of prison sentences (by encouraging states to drastically reduce or eliminate parole and early release." [[http://www.vox.com/2015/4/30/8522259/hillary-record-criminal-justice]] Said Hillary Clinton in 1994, "We need more and tougher prison sentences for repeat offenders," she said in 1994. "We need more prisons to keep violent offenders for as long as it takes to keep them off the streets."[[http://www.vox.com/2015/4/30/8522259/hillary-record-criminal-justice]]

In her 2016 Presidential campaign, Clinton has taken a much different tone on crime and incarceration, saying "We have allowed our criminal justice system to get out of balance, and these recent tragedies should galvanize us to come together as a nation to find our balance again," and calling for an end to "the era of mass incarceration." [[http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-baltimore-riots-to-end-the-era-of-mass-incarceration/]]

'''Iraq War:'''
See Iraq war section of page.

'''Ethanol:'''
Clinton has changed her position on Ethanol at convenient political moments. The Daily Beast writes "[I]n 2002, Clinton opposed the mandated use of just two billion gallons of ethanol per year. But a mere five years later, after seeing that she had to go through Iowa — which produces more ethanol than any other state — to return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, she was advocating the use of 18 times that quantity of biofuel. [[http://www.the-american-interest.com/2015/04/16/hillary-embraces-disastrous-biofuel-policy/]]

A 2002 letter written with fellow Democrats states about the ethanol mandate states the measure would add "an astonishing new anti-consumer government mandate — that every US refiner must use an ever-increasing volume of ethanol.” [[http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/04/14/hillary-s-big-iowa-flip-flop.html]] The Daily Beast writes that in all during her time in the Senate, Clinton voted against ethanol 17 times. [[http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/04/14/hillary-s-big-iowa-flip-flop.html]]

But in early 2007, seeking the Democratic nomination for President and a win in the Iowa caucus, Clinton changed her rhetoric on ethanol, a product important to many voters in Iowa. Clinton said the U.S needs to work on "limiting our dependence on foreign oil. And we have a perfect example right here in Iowa about how it can work with all of the ethanol that’s being produced here.”[[http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/04/14/hillary-s-big-iowa-flip-flop.html]]

'''Trade:'''

Clinton has flip-flopped on the issue of free trade, specifically in regard to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, or TPP. in 2012, as Secretary of State, Clinton said "We need to keep upping our game both bilaterally and with partners across the region through agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP. ... This TPP sets the gold standard in trade agreements to open free, transparent, fair trade, the kind of environment that has the rule of law and a level playing field. And when negotiated, this agreement will cover 40 percent of the world's total trade and build in strong protections for workers and the environment."[[http://www.ibtimes.com/hillary-clinton-trade-deal-flip-flop-she-praised-trans-pacific-partnership-now-hedges-1887195]]

However, in 2015, as opposition from the more liberal faction of the Democratic party grew and activists and labor advocated railed against the TPP, Clinton flipped her view on the free trade deal. When pressed for an answer about whether she would vote for the trade package giving President Obama fast track authority to negotiate the trade deal, widely seen as the path for the deal to be finalized, Clinton said "At this point, probably not."[[http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/06/19/clinton-breaks-with-obama-on-trade-despite-supporting-deal-as-secretary-state/]]

Clinton has also flip-flopped on the North American Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA, which was championed by Bill Clinton. In 1996 she said of the agreement "I think everybody is in favor of free and fair trade. I think NAFTA is proving its worth." [[http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/feb/25/barack-obama/clinton-has-changed-on-nafta/]] Clinton also wrote in a 2003 memoir of NAFTA "Creating a free trade zone in North America — the largest free trade zone in the world — would expand U.S. exports, create jobs and ensure that our economy was reaping the benefits, not the burdens, of globalization. Although unpopular with labor unions, expanding trade opportunities was an important administration goal." [[http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/feb/25/barack-obama/clinton-has-changed-on-nafta/]]

However, during a 2007 debate Clinton changed her tune, saying "NAFTA was a mistake to the extent that it did not deliver on what we had hoped it would, and that's why I call for a trade timeout."[[http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/feb/25/barack-obama/clinton-has-changed-on-nafta/]]

== On Greece ==
In 2011, Clinton expressed her support for the right-wing austerity measures championed by the Greek government in power in 2011.
"The United States strongly supports the Papandreou government's determination to make the necessary reforms to put Greece back on a sound financial footing and to make Greece more competitive economically...I am not here to in any way downplay the immediate challenges because they are real. But I am here to say that we believe strongly that this[the austerity plan] will give Greece a very strong economy going forward," Clinton said. [[http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/18/clinton-greece-hillary-austerity_n_901304.html?ref=tw]]
However, four years later, the Greek debt crisis is worse than ever, which many have blamed on the right wing austerity measures put forward by the 2011 government whose policies Clinton supported.

== Other Quotes ==
Of the execution of Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi, Clinton cracked a joke, saying "We came, we saw, he died." [[http://www.cbsnews.com/news/clinton-on-qaddafi-we-came-we-saw-he-died/]]
Biden has been referred to as "single most important congressional backer of the Bush administration’s decision to invade" Iraq. A 2008 article in FPIF details how Biden "orchestrated a propaganda show designed to sell the war to skeptical colleagues and the America public by ensuring that dissenting voices would not get a fair hearing" using his role as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. [[http://web.archive.org/web/20080912110435/http://www.fpif.org/fpiftxt/5492]]

"What we have here, I argue, as the rationale for going after Saddam, is that he signed a cease-fire agreement. The condition for his continuing in power was the elimination of his weapons of mass destruction, and the permission to have inspectors in to make sure he had eliminated them. He expelled those inspectors. So he violated the cease-fire; ergo, we have authority--not under a doctrine of preemption. This will not be a preemptive strike, if we go with the rest of the world. It will be an enforcement strike." (10/10/2002, Senate hearing on Authorizing Force in Iraq) [http://www.c-spanvideo.org/videoLibrary/transcript/transcript.php?id=152410] [http://middleeast.about.com/od/usmideastpolicy/a/me080823.htm]
“Secretary Powell made a powerful and irrefutable case today before the UN Security Council.
MR. RUSSERT: I want to go back to 2002, because it’s important as to what people were saying then and what the American people were hearing. Here’s Joe Biden about Saddam Hussein: “He’s a long term threat and a short term threat to our national security.” “We have no choice but to eliminate the threat. This is a guy who is an extreme danger to the world.” “He must be dislodged from his weapons or dislodged from power.” You were emphatic about that.

SEN. BIDEN: That’s right, and I was correct about that. He must be, in fact—and remember the weapons we were talking about. I also said on your show, that’s part of what I said, but not all of what I meant. What I also said on your show at the time was that I did not think he had weaponized his material, but he did have. When, when the inspectors left after Saddam kicked them out, there was a cataloguing at the United Nations saying he had X tons of, X amount of, and they listed the various materials he had. The big issue, remember, on this show we talked about, was whether he had weaponized them. Remember you asked me about those flights that were taking place in southern Iraq, where—were they spraying anthrax? And, you know, what would happen? And, you know, so on and so forth. And I pointed out to you that they had not developed that capacity at all. But he did have these stockpiles everywhere.

MR. RUSSERT: Where are they?

SEN. BIDEN: Well, the point is, it turned out they didn’t, but everyone in the world thought he had them. The weapons inspectors said he had them. He catalogued—they catalogued them. This was not some, some Cheney, you know, pipe dream. This was, in fact, catalogued. They looked at them and catalogued. What he did with them, who knows? The real mystery is, if he, if he didn’t have any of them left, why didn’t he say so? Well, a lot of people say if he had said that, he would’ve, you know, emboldened Iran and so on and so forth. ...

MR. RUSSERT: But when you read the national intelligence estimate, which has now been released, there’re a lot of caveats put on the level of intelligence about the aluminum tubes and...

SEN. BIDEN: Absolutely.

MR. RUSSERT: General Zinni, who’s been on this program a few weeks ago, said that when he heard the discussion about the weapons of mass destruction that Saddam had, he said, “I’ve never heard that” in any of the briefings he had as head of the Central Command. How could you as a U.S. senator be so wrong?

SEN. BIDEN: I, I wasn’t wrong. I was on your show when you asked me about aluminum tubes, and I said they’re for artillery. I don’t believe they’re for cascading.

MR. RUSSERT: But you said Saddam was a threat. He had to be...

SEN. BIDEN: He was a threat.

MR. RUSSERT: In what way?

SEN. BIDEN: The threat he presented was that, if Saddam was left unfettered, which I said during that period, for the next five years with sanctions lifted and billions of dollars into his coffers, then I believed he had the ability to acquire a tactical nuclear weapon—not by building it, by purchasing it. ...

MR. RUSSERT: You were asked on this program a few months after the invasion of May of ‘03 about your vote. And you said, “There was sufficient evidence to go into Iraq.” And then in ‘04 you said—a year and a half ago—“I voted to give the president the authority to use force in Iraq. I still believe my vote was just.” Then you went to Iowa in ‘07, running for president and said, “It was a mistake. I regret my vote.”

SEN. BIDEN: That’s unfair. I said that on your program it was a mistake between, and you make it sound like I went to Iowa and all of a sudden I had people out there saying Biden is...

MR. RUSSERT: Well, there was a change in your thinking from, from being...

SEN. BIDEN: No...

(4/29/2007, Meet the Press: Meet the Candidate, Sen. Joe Biden) [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18381961/ns/meet_the_press/t/mtp-transcript-april/#.UG8uOxyIu-E]
"Saddam is dangerous. the world would be a better place without him. The reason he poses a growing danger to the United States and it's allies is that he possesses chemical and biological weapons and is seeking with his two billion dollars a year, which is illegally skimmed from the U.N. fund for food (Oil for Food Program) that he is seeking nuclear weapons. For years now he has prevented the UN inspectors from uncovering those weapons and verifying Iraq's disarmament.

Question: "We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?"
Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price—we think the price is worth it." [http://fair.org/extra/we-think-the-price-is-worth-it/]
"For the risk that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.
